Daffodil

The name Daffodil comes from Greek mythology. The story of Narcissus is about a handsome young man who fell in love with his own reflection in the water. He stayed there hoping to get in touch with the person in the water, but that didn't work out and he languished and died. All that remained of him was a flower, yellow inside and surrounded by white leaves. The myth of Narcissus lives on in the name of the flower Daffodil.  Daffodils are spring bloomers and grow from bulbs. The daffodil is a real Easter flower and is also called Easter lily. In German, the Daffodil is called Osterglocke (Easter Bell). There are 85 different types of Daffodils and 10,000 different breeds. The most common colors are yellow, white, white-orange, white-yellow and yellow-orange. The best known is the yellow Daffodil with the yellow trumpet (see Carlton), but there are also double-flowered, or small Daffodils with clusters of yellow or white flowers. Daffodils are also widely grown in England and Ireland. Daffodils are very happy to naturalize, If you plant them somewhere, they come back annually. The Daffodil blooms in early spring in the month of March and sometimes as early as February, where the feral Daffodil is more likely to emerge than the Daffodil planted in autumn.
