The Fosteriana tulip is native to the mountains of Central Asia. These early-flowering (April) tulips are medium-length with large flowers and large leaves. The leaves sometimes have purple or brown markings. They are descended from the botanical or wild species Tulipa Fosteriana. These tulips come in various colours such as white, yellow, orange, pink and red, with strong bright shades predominating. The most famous Fosteriana is Madame Lefeber, also known as Red Emperor. This tulip was also at the base of the Darwin Hybrid.
